IMF yang ternyata telah dibubarkan oleh dendam birokrat Washington kepala CIA ( Alec Baldwin ), Ethan Hunt yang merupakan salah satu dari agen IMF bersama-sama dengan para tim IMF lainnya ( Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames  serta pendatang baru Rebecca Ferguson ) harus melakukan perburuan melawan kekuatan jahat yang memiliki sebutan “The Syndicate” dengan pemimpinnya yang sulit untuk diipahami ( Sean Harris ).
